How it works
Renting a dump trailer in Columbus, start to scale
Six steps, no permit for a driveway drop, and usually a day or two from request to delivery. Most of what makes a rental go smoothly is where you put it and how you load it.

01
You request a date
Fill in the form or call. Your request goes to one local dump trailer rental company that covers your address. They call back, usually the same business day, to confirm the price, the weight allowance and a delivery window.

02
Pick the spot
Choose a flat, firm place on your driveway or yard, about 30 feet long and 10 feet wide, with room for a pickup to back the trailer in. Watch for low branches, the carport roof, the mailbox, and septic tanks or drain fields. Columbus city code generally keeps containers off public streets and alleys, so plan on private property.
-
03
Drop-off
The driver backs the trailer in, lays plywood under the tongue jack and the tires, chocks the wheels and unhitches. Show them where the doors should face. It takes about 15 minutes and you don't need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

-
04
Load it right
Heavy, flat items first and toward the front, over the axles. Break down furniture and cut long boards so nothing sticks up above the sides; the load has to be tarped. Keep yard waste and concrete or dirt out of the junk load, and keep paint, batteries, chemicals and propane out entirely.

-
05
Pickup and tarp
Call or text when you're done, or wait for the scheduled pickup. The driver straps a tarp over the load and tows it away. If the trailer is overloaded above the sides, they'll ask you to take some off before it can leave.

06
Weigh and dump
The load crosses the landfill scale. In Muscogee County household and construction waste goes to Pine Grove Landfill; loads from Phenix City, Smiths Station and Harris County go to facilities on their side. You pay extra only for the weight over your allowance, from the scale ticket.
Three piles
Where your load ends up
Columbus's landfills don't accept mixed loads. Sorting before you load is what keeps the price to the quote.
