Most Columbus-area dump trailer rentals are a 14-foot tandem-axle trailer with a hydraulic lift. It's about the length of a pickup and smaller than any roll-off dumpster.

Load gauge

How heavy is your project?

Rentals are priced by the trip and the ton. Volume rarely runs out first; weight does. Here's roughly what common Columbus jobs weigh at the scale.

Columbus specifics

Three local rules that shape the price

$85/t

Pine Grove Landfill

Columbus's Pine Grove Landfill on Pine Grove Way charges $85 a ton for household and construction waste. That's why every rental includes a weight allowance and bills overage by the ton, and why Pine Grove only takes waste from Muscogee County.

No mix

Sorted loads

The city's landfills don't accept mixed loads. Junk and construction debris, yard waste and storm limbs, and concrete, brick or dirt are dumped separately; inert loads go to the Granite Bluff Inert Landfill on River Road at $76.50 a ton.

Driveway

Not the street

Columbus city code generally keeps dumpsters out of public streets and alleys, so the trailer goes on your driveway or yard. Newer subdivisions in North Columbus, Midland and Fortson may also have HOA limits on how long it can stay.

What goes in

Yes, separate, and no

Columbus landfills sort by material. Keep these three piles straight and the load dumps at the right rate.

In the trailer

  • Furniture, boxes and household junk
  • Carpet, pad and flooring
  • Drywall, cabinets and countertops
  • Shingles and roofing felt
  • Lumber, deck boards and fencing
  • Mattresses, appliances and tires (per-item fee)

Its own load

  • Limbs, brush and storm debris (organic load, Pine Grove)
  • Concrete, brick, dirt and rock (inert load, Granite Bluff)

Ask for a separate trip; Columbus landfills don't take mixed loads.

Never

  • Wet paint and solvents
  • Batteries
  • Railroad ties
  • Liquids, chemicals and motor oil
  • Propane tanks
  • Asbestos and anything hazardous

How this works

One request. One local rental company.

Columbus Dump Trailer Rental is a referral service. When you request a trailer, your request goes to one independent dump trailer rental company that serves your part of the Columbus area. They call you to confirm the price, the weight allowance and the delivery window, then drop the trailer, pick it up and dump it.

Your information is never put on a lead list or sent to five companies at once. The rental company may pay us for the referral; it does not change your price.

FAQ

Questions Columbus renters ask

1 How much does it cost to rent a dump trailer in Columbus, GA?

Most rentals in the Columbus area run about $200–$325 for one to three days and $275–$500 for five to seven days, delivered and picked up, with a weight allowance (often 1 to 2 tons) included. Weight over the allowance usually costs $85–$125 a ton, because Pine Grove Landfill charges $85 a ton for household and construction waste. Mattresses, tires and appliances can carry small per-item fees. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.

2 Dump trailer or roll-off dumpster?

For most home projects a 14-foot dump trailer is the better fit. It holds about 11 cubic yards (four to five pickup loads), fits on an ordinary driveway, rests on tires that spread its weight, and has 3-foot sides and rear doors you can walk things through. Roll-off dumpsters in Columbus are commonly quoted around $466–$840 and make sense for large jobs that need 20 to 30 yards or several weeks.

3 Do I need a permit for a dump trailer in Columbus?

Not on your own driveway or yard. Columbus city code generally keeps dumpsters out of public streets and alleys, so plan on private property; if it truly has to sit on a street, call the Columbus Consolidated Government Engineering Department before you book. Phenix City, Harris County and homeowners associations set their own rules, and many HOAs limit how long a container can sit in view of the street.

4 How much weight is included, and what if I go over?

A 14,000-lb tandem dump trailer can legally carry roughly 4 to 5 tons, but the rental price usually includes 1 to 2 tons of disposal. The load is weighed at the landfill scale and anything over the allowance is billed by the ton. Volume and weight are not the same thing: a trailer heaped with furniture may weigh a ton, while a trailer a third full of dirt or concrete can already be at the limit.

5 What can't go in a dump trailer?

Paint (unless the can is empty or the paint is fully dried), batteries, railroad ties, liquids, chemicals, motor oil, propane tanks, asbestos and anything hazardous. Tires, mattresses and appliances with refrigerant are usually allowed for a per-item fee. Yard waste, and concrete, brick or dirt, have to stay out of the junk load: Columbus landfills do not take mixed loads, and inert materials go to the Granite Bluff Inert Landfill on River Road.

6 Will a dump trailer damage my driveway?

It shouldn't. The trailer rests on its tires and tongue jack, and plywood boards go under the jack foot and the tires to spread the load. Those boards matter most on asphalt in a Columbus July, when the surface softens in the heat. Keep it off septic tanks and drain fields, and off soft red clay right after a heavy rain.

7 How much fits in a 14-foot dump trailer?

A 14 x 7 foot bed with 3-foot sides holds about 11 cubic yards, roughly four to five full-size pickup beds. That is a packed two-car garage, a kitchen gut, or the shingles from a single-layer roof on a typical ranch house (with shingles, weight runs out before space does).

8 Can I put roofing shingles in it?

Yes, it is one of the most common uses. One layer of asphalt shingles weighs roughly 250–400 lb per square (100 sq ft), so a 25-square roof is about 3 to 5 tons, usually more than the included allowance. Two layers normally means two loads. Give the roof size when you book so the price is right the first time.

9 How soon can I get a trailer?

Often within a day or two, sometimes the next morning on weekdays. Spring storm season, summer PCS moves around Fort Benning and the fall cleanout months book up first, so request your date as early as you can.

10 Do you serve Phenix City and Harris County?

Yes: Phenix City, Smiths Station, Fortson, Cataula, Hamilton, Pine Mountain, Midland, Cusseta and the Fort Benning area. Columbus's Pine Grove Landfill only accepts waste generated in Muscogee County, so loads from outside the county go to a different facility, which can change the price a little.

11 Who actually provides the trailer?

Columbus Dump Trailer Rental is a referral service. When you request a trailer we pass it to one independent, local dump trailer rental company that calls you, confirms the price, delivers, picks up and dumps the load under its own terms. We may be paid by that company for the referral. Your request is never sold to a list or sent to several companies.
